The swimming pool and auxiliary gym are scheduled to be demolished between 2016 and 2017, but a new pool is in the works.
Seher Awan, assistant director of fiscal services, said the pool and the auxiliary gym will be demolished after the new athletics building becomes operational. The area will be converted into an open space for campus use.
Awan said a new swimming pool is in the master plan for the future of the campus. She said future bonds will fund this project.
Lamel Harris, athletic director, said the old pool was closed for financial reasons, but a new pool could provide numerous opportunities for both students and members of the community.
“It could be a source of revenue,” Harris said. “It could also be used as rehab for athletes.”
