Fifteen members of the San Jose City College women’s softball team participated in the fifth annual “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” noncompetitive 5K walk on Oct. 27.
The Lady Jags gathered before the race at the gates of the ceremonial start, which began at 8:30 a.m. in the Arena Green at the HP Pavilion in downtown San Jose.
“It’s a community-building and very heart-filled event because people are walking to recognize and raise money for a very positive cause,” Lady Jags alumnus and former SJCC Student Life director Jennifer Sweeney said.
The Lady Jags have participated in the event, which raises money and awareness about breast cancer, since it began in 2007.
“It’s a great way to support the fight against breast cancer and show that we really care as a team,” said Lady Jags’ sophomore pitcher Savannah Bernardo, 19, early childhood education major.
The Lady Jags raised more than $400 in donations, and all donations from the event go toward breast cancer research, education and patient
support nationwide.
