Raising money to end hunger
The ceramics class is planning to have an event for Empty Bowls Project, by the nonprofit organization Imagine Render, sometime in the spring semester, Michelle Gregor wrote via email.
According to its website, the Empty Bowls Project is “an international grassroots effort to raise both money and awareness in the fight to end hunger.”
More details to be provided about the event by ceramics professor Gregor when the schedule finalizes.
“Plans are still in formative state,” Gregor wrote via email.
Before the fall semester ended, the ceramics class hosted an open house sale on Dec. 8.
Among the attendees was former San Jose City College student, Angel Munoz, 33.
“I love art so I came to check out the pieces (up for sale) of my professors and just to see if I buy something,” Munoz said.
Munoz said he took the ceramics class six or seven times has moved on to teach ceramics at the Blind Center in San Jose.
“I learned a lot of different (ceramic) techniques here in San Jose City College and now I’m applying those techniques to teach blind people,” Munoz said. “I’m making some modifications because it’s not the same.”
