1970 – The United States celebrated the first Earth Day, a holiday created to raise awareness of environmental problems.

1978 – The Blues Brothers had their debut performance on “Saturday Night Live.” The band became a hit with three songs – “Soul Man” “Rubber Biscuit” and “Gimme Some Lovin”– which became top 40 hits and led to a self-titled movie “The Blues Brothers” released in 1980.

1994 – Former U.S. President Richard Nixon died.
