Many students were surprised this week to see new furniture as they entered the Student Center. The furniture arrived Friday, May 17.
The new furniture sits by the Financial Aid office and outside the Student Lounge and consists of a couch, coffee table, nine chairs and eight ottomans.
“I like how comfortable the furniture is. Its vibrant and goes with anything ” San Jose City College student Rosa Sixtos said.
The furniture was ordered by the college to accommodate more seating for students in the Student Center.
“The college administration said it felt it was necessary to add some comfort to students who are in the building on a regular basis. We also wanted to get rid of some really old furniture that was in bad need of replacing, ” Vice President of Administrative Services Greg Nelson wrote in an email.
The previous furniture pieces were round office tables and chairs as well as black leather chairs outside the student lounge.
Nelson wrote that the furniture was paid for with bond money. No information was given in the email about which bond or the total cost of the furniture.
Odila Pepar, Financial Aid Specialist, said “ I sat on the new furniture. They are comfortable, as well as beautiful and elegant. From the location of my desk, I can see students do homework and relax.
