San Jose Evergreen Community College District approved the new student body Senate Constitution.
The new form of government is expected to be more representative of the student body and also provide more manpower to accomplish the work of student government than a club-run governing board.
Student government president Mike Casas said, “San Jose City College is one of the last state community colleges to move from a club-run governing body to a senate form of government.”
Although the board overwhelmingly approved the constitution, the real working document of bylaws was approved by student government on April 17; board approval of the bylaws is expected April 23. It is the bylaws that explain and define the details of day-to-day student government operations, including the election process for student senators.
In celebration of the board approval of the constitution, the ASG hosted a social and provided cake and sparkling cider to the board members and members of the audience.
