SJCC women pole vaulters qualify for state championships

By Times Staff

San Jose City College track and field pole vaulters Emily Soley and Diamara Planell Cruz qualified for the State Community College Track and Field Championships at Cerritos College on May 19.

“They are both challenging themselves to reach the next performance level athletically, while having to break old mental habits that plague us from becoming great,“ track and field coach David Flynn said.

Cruz won the Women Pole Vault NorCal Championships, reaching a height of 12 feet 5.5 inches at College of San Mateo on May 11.

Flynn said Soley and Cruz are performing well in practice.

“We are proud to have these ladies represent San Jose City College,” Flynn said. “They will show California community colleges throughout the state the excellence that SJCC has to offer.”
