The Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges was on the San Jose City College campus on Nov. 8-9. They came back to see how well the school had responded to the list of six recommendations they had made in the previous visit earlier this year. The recommendations were for the categories of integrated planning and assessment, program review, student learning outcomes, distance learning, human resources and facilities resources.
The ACCJC was impressed with how much improvement that they had seen at SJCC. The chair for the committee John Morton said SJCC’s follow-up report was one of the most well written reports he had ever seen. Despite the fact that the committee was impressed with the format of the report, they found that SJCC still did not meet some of the recommendations.
SJCC did not meet the requirements of the recommendations for integrated planning assessment, program review and SLOs, said Celia Cruz, co-chair of the Accreditation Task Force.
The decision to change SJCC’s probation status will be made in late January by the commission, however most colleges do not get taken off probation immediately, said Rebecca Games, co-chair of Accreditation Task Force.
