The Associated Student Government celebrated Thanksgiving by feeding students.
Andy Nguyen, the director of activities for the Associated Student Government, and Haley Leonard, a member of the ASG, helped organize the SJCC Thanksgiving dinner on Nov. 25 in the Student Center.
The ASG is organizing a Christmas dinner for Dec. 11, as well. It will be on
the second floor of the Student Center in Room SC-204 from 5:30 p.m.
to 8 p.m.
The Thanksgiving dinner was only for students at San Jose City College. Students
had to have paid all their fees in order to attend. Students needed to
get a purple sticker from the students’ office by presenting ID.
The dinner included delicious turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes, as well as a fresh salad and pumpkin pie.
Nguyen as well as other students gave short speeches for the students.
They said they were thankful for their families and for being at the
school and they are proud to be part of Associated Students.
Rosa Sarah, a dancing major, said she had “a wonderful time listening to music and eating a delicious Thanksgiving feast” and she is thankful “to be a student at SJCC and have a family.”
Elizabeth T., an English major, said she was thankful for being part of the dinner with her friends.
“The dinner is delicious,” she said. “Sweet potatoes, gravy, stuffing, salads, buns and lots of other great food.”
Nguyen who started his journey as an SJCC student in 2003, said he is thankful
for his family and for his education. In addition, he is thankful for
his colleagues that always encouraged him to work hard.
SJCC is like his second home. He expects to graduate with a degree in Liberal
Arts. His goals are to continue helping disabled children in Vietnam.
He will transfer next semester to San Jose State University.
Hayley Leonard began her journey at SJCC in 2010. She is proud to be
a member of the student government. SJCC is her second home.
Leonard is working on an AA degree in Early Childhood Development in Education. Her dream is to work with children. She also works as a volunteer on the radio station at SJCC. She interviews people, plays music, looks for comedy
and poetry.
She encourages students to keep working hard and never give up.
“I know it is not easy,” she said, “but everything is possible.”
