The San Jose City College softball team finished with a record of 29-9-1 overall in the 2010-2011 season.
They were ranked eighth in Nor Cal Regional. They are looking to repeat last year’s Coast Conference South champs status and improve on their record.
The Lady Jaguars are all about competitiveness and discipline, but off to a slow start at 0-2. The Lady Jaguars look to bounce back with three consecutive home games against Cabrillo, Hartnell, and an intense rivalry game against Gavilan.
The Jags are returning six sophomores, including all-conference players Alejandra
Hernandez, Theresa Torres, and All-State captain and center fielder Elizabeth Foster, the team’s leading scorer.
Not always about athletics, the Lady Jaguars are also about academics, with nine players maintaining a 3.0 grade point average or better, according to San Jose City College’s website.
Jags were academically ranked No.1 in California with a team GPA of 3.02 in the 2010-2011 season.
“We are all about competitiveness, discipline, and academics,” said Head Coach Debbie Huntze-Rooney.
Huntze-Rooney has led the Lady Jags to 16 regional playoffs and six Coast Conference championships. Huntze-Rooney also stated that she is expecting great things from the team she has this year.
