{"id":9842,"date":"2014-11-09T21:31:34","date_gmt":"2014-11-10T05:31:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sjcctimes.com\/?p=9842"},"modified":"2014-11-09T21:31:34","modified_gmt":"2014-11-10T05:31:34","slug":"lady-jags-advance-placing-third","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sjcctimes.com\/es\/9842\/news\/lady-jags-advance-placing-third\/","title":{"rendered":"Lady Jags advance by placing third"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Next Step: NorCal Championships <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The San Jose City College women\u2019s cross-country team placed third in the Coast Conference Championships on Thursday, Oct. 30 at Crystal Springs Park in Belmont, where the top three teams out of six advanced to race in the NorCal Championship on Saturday, Nov. 8.<br \/>\nHartnell and De Anza College placed first and second, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>What the Jags did on Oct. 30 exceeded Head Coach David Flynn\u2019s expectations and he said he was \u201cvery pleased with what happened in that race. We have a very young group of women runners.\u201d<br \/>\nAll five women who started the race finished with point scoring finishes for a team total of 85.<br \/>\nFirst-place Hartnell College finished with 15 points and De Anza College collected 47 points.<br \/>\n\u201cIn the sport of cross-country the lowest score score wins, just like golf,\u201d Flynn said.<br \/>\nThe next step for the Lady Jag running squad is going up against all the best female cross-country runners in Northern California at the community college level.<br \/>\nFreshman runner Lillian Ruiz said she is \u201csuper excited\u201d for her third time running the Crystal Springs course and second in a week and a half.<br \/>\n\u201cThe Crystal Springs course is really fun.\u201d Ruiz said. \u201cI understand how to balance my pace with my energy and I already know ahead of time there is a long stretch that is steep that I will be looking out for.\u201d<br \/>\nAlong with Ruiz, fellow newbie to the cross-country team Kanani Jeffery is looking at NorCals as a \u201cgood experience for my motivation.\u201d Jeffery said who will be running in her second race this season in NorCals.<br \/>\nThe top 10 out of 15 team in NorCals move on to the State Championship on Saturday, Nov. 22 in Fresno.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Next Step: NorCal Championships The San Jose City College women\u2019s cross-country team placed third in the Coast Conference Championships on Thursday, Oct. 30 at Crystal Springs Park in Belmont, where the top three teams out of six advanced to race in the NorCal Championship on Saturday, Nov. 8.
