{"id":9541,"date":"2014-05-06T15:59:46","date_gmt":"2014-05-06T22:59:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sjcctimes.com\/?p=9541"},"modified":"2014-05-08T16:09:08","modified_gmt":"2014-05-08T23:09:08","slug":"jags-advance-playoffs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sjcctimes.com\/es\/9541\/sports\/jags-advance-playoffs\/","title":{"rendered":"Jags advance to playoffs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Softball team looks to wake up bats after 22-15 season<\/p>\n<p>The San Jose City College softball team\u00a0earned the 10th seed among 17 teams in\u00a0the Northern California Regional playoff\u00a0bracket announced Saturday, April 26.<\/p>\n<p>SJCC will travel to Santa Rosa Junior\u00a0College that placed as the No. 7 seed, to\u00a0play in a best-of-three series the weekend\u00a0of May 3.<\/p>\n<p>Head coach Debbie Huntz-Rooney said\u00a0the two teams have some similarities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn paper, we are a very evenly matched\u00a0team with SRJC,\u201d Huntz-Rooney said.\u00a0\u201cThey have a lot of the same things we do\u00a0as a team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both schools finished their seasons among\u00a0the league\u2019s best, batting well-above a .300\u00a0average and scoring over 200 runs in total.<\/p>\n<p>SJCC ended the season with an overall\u00a0record of 22-15 and 10-7 in Coast South\u00a0Conference play, finishing in third-place\u00a0behind Gavillan (28-10, 13-4) and Cabrillo\u00a0College (26-11, 12-5). The Jags dropped the last two games by a\u00a0combined score of 12-1.<\/p>\n<p>SRJC finished with an overall record of\u00a028-11 and 13-8 in Big 8 Conference play, placing\u00a0third out of eight teams. Santa Rosa also\u00a0won\u00a0the last four\u00a0games of the season, outscoring their\u00a0opponents 24-5.<\/p>\n<p>The Jags look to wake up the bats during\u00a0the week leading up to the first round of the\u00a0NorCal playoffs.\u00a0Huntz-Rooney said the team needs to\u00a0play good defense and make sure the bats\u00a0are working to score runs.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Softball team looks to wake up bats after 22-15 season The San Jose City College softball team\u00a0earned the 10th seed among 17 teams in\u00a0the Northern California Regional playoff\u00a0bracket announced Saturday, April 26.
