{"id":9200,"date":"2014-02-25T15:18:09","date_gmt":"2014-02-25T23:18:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sjcctimes.com\/?p=9200"},"modified":"2014-02-25T15:18:09","modified_gmt":"2014-02-25T23:18:09","slug":"demi-lights-up-san-jose","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sjcctimes.com\/es\/9200\/arts-entertainment\/demi-lights-up-san-jose\/","title":{"rendered":"Demi lights up San Jose"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Neon Lights&#8221; tour thrills fans<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Four albums and five years into her career, Demi Lovato\u2019s fan base is larger than ever.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Lovato\u2019s concert at the SAP Center on Feb. 11 was packed with digital effects, hair-flips and, most importantly, incredible vocals.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The 21-year-old former Disney star entered the stage by rising out of the floor, performing the hit-single \u201cHeart Attack.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Her concert was what fans would expect and more. Jonas Brother member Nick Jonas and Glee\u2019s Chord Overstreet both made guest appearances.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Jonas, the show\u2019s music director, joined Lovato on stage to perform three songs, including the romantic \u201cCatch Me.\u201d\u00a0Overstreet only played guitar during \u201cMade in the U.S.A.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The highlight of the show was the performance of \u201cNeon Lights,\u201d which turned the stadium into a rave as fans waved glow sticks and their lit-up cell phones in the air.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">There was only one costume change and no real choreography, but videos of Lovato accompanied her performances.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Unlike most artists her age, Lovato emotionally connects with her fans.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">She gave several brief, empowering speeches during her concert saying, \u201ctouring isn\u2019t about dancing and fireworks, but about you and me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Lovato recently became a New York Times best-selling author after releasing her advice book \u201cStaying Strong,\u201d which contains supportive one-page messages for each day of the year.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cMy favorite part of the show was how she involved the audience throughout her whole show,\u201d said Mark Vandenburg, 23, Modesto.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Fans complained about \u201cCamp Rock\u201d songs, earlier hits \u201cGet Back\u201d and \u201cLa La Land,\u201d and song from new album \u201cDemi\u201d not being on the setlist.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Disney\u2019s musical \u201cCamp Rock\u201d was Lovato\u2019s 2008 breakthrough, that she co-starred with The Jonas Brothers.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cStop the World,\u201d \u201cGot Dynamite\u201d and \u201cThe Middle\u201d were not worthy enough to be on the setlist and should have been replaced with more recent songs to improve the show.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Lovato included the singles \u201cDon\u2019t Forget,\u201d \u201cSkyscraper,\u201d \u201cRemember December,\u201d Disney\u2019s \u201cLet it Go,\u201d and closing number \u201cGive Your Heart a Break.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Jennifer Le, 19, student, has seen five of Lovato\u2019s concerts throughout the years and said this show was the best yet.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThere was more connection between Demi and her fans, and the stage was more extravagant,\u201d Le said.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Thousands of Lovatotics (term Lovato calls her biggest fans) were at the show wearing Lovato merchandise and singing along with most of her songs.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Opening acts Little Mix and Fifth Harmony succeeded in pumping up the crowd for Lovato, who\u00a0proves to be a talented artist with staying power in the industry.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">She is better at entertaining a crowd with her voice and personality compared to her contemporaries, Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Lovato might become the next Kelly Clarkson or P!nk as she continues to make hits that relate to people and not be another tool for music producers to objectify.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Neon Lights&#8221; tour thrills fans Four albums and five years into her career, Demi Lovato\u2019s fan base is larger than ever.
