San Jose City College closer to Eco Pass<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Evergreen Valley College is likely to join the district-wide Eco pass agreement, which would make the cost \u00a0$6-$0 per semester. \u00a0Associated Students is moving forward with an Eco pass referendum.<\/p>\n

Employees’ vacation time vulnerable<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Auditors found that the school had reserved the vacation liability fund in an account that was not within regulation.<\/p>\n

The vacation liability fund was relocated to the general fund. The Finance Committee has voted against any motion that motion that would reallocate those funds for any purpose other than their intended purpose.<\/p>\n

District moves to cap ‘rollover’ budget<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Greg Nelson, vice-president of administrative services, expressed concern at the Finance Committee that the district might be moving to a $200,000 “rollover” budget cap. The San Jose City College projected rollover from last year is $280,000.<\/p>\n

“It (the rollover cap) doesn’t incentivize schools to save,” Nelson said.<\/p>\n

Sears’ job fair successful<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Thirty-two people took the Sears electrical test and interviewed for Sears job positions on Oct. 23. \u00a0Two students from SJCC were called for second interviews. Twenty-one students passed the exam and are waiting for first interviews.<\/p>\n

SJCC showcases Buffalo Soldier history<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The “Buffalo Soldiers in the Philippines” event covered the origins of the Buffalo Soldiers and what they did in the late 1800s leading up to the Philipine-American War. It featured slideshows, historical information and key note speakers descended from Buffalo Solders.<\/p>\n

The event was led by communications instructor Merylee Shelton, who was excited to show the presentation. October was National Filipino Month.<\/p>\n

Accreditation team visits SJCC<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Accreditation Evaluation Team from the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges came to the campus to conduct a follow-up report.<\/p>\n

According to the recent Accreditation Team feedback from President Barbara Kavalier, the chair of the team indicated that the college will receive a draft of the report in a few weeks.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
