Fifteen members of the San Jose City College women\u2019s softball team participated in the fifth annual \u201cMaking Strides Against Breast Cancer\u201d noncompetitive 5K walk on Oct. 27.<\/p>\n

The Lady Jags gathered before the race at the gates of the ceremonial start, which began at 8:30 a.m. in the Arena Green at the HP Pavilion in downtown San Jose.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a community-building and very heart-filled event because people are walking to recognize and raise money for a very positive cause,\u201d Lady Jags alumnus and former SJCC Student Life director Jennifer Sweeney said.<\/p>\n

The Lady Jags have participated in the event, which raises money and awareness about breast cancer, since it began in 2007.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a great way to support the fight against breast cancer and show that we really care as a team,\u201d said Lady Jags\u2019\u00a0sophomore pitcher Savannah Bernardo, 19, early childhood education major.<\/p>\n

The Lady Jags raised more than $400 in donations, and all donations from the event go toward breast cancer research, education and patient
