The radio broadcasting class is preparing a live radio parody based on the original Orson Wells radio drama \u201cThe War of the Worlds\u201d to be aired at 5 p.m. on Halloween.<\/p>\n
Broadcasting instructor Betsy Gebhart warned the listening audience, \u201cbe prepared for a very scary Halloween show, but don\u2019t call the authorities;\u00a0it is just a radio show. It is going to be fantastic.\u201d<\/p>\n
Manny Madrigal, the script writer, took on the project because the original script written in the 1940s was outdated. <\/p>\n
\u201cPeople today are more scared by a psychological thriller,\u201d Madrigal said.<\/p>\n
Madrigal shared the learning experiences gained from this project.<\/p>\n
\u201cGiving everybody a part was the biggest challenge. Also, being the writer and director was interesting because I have to give people direction, and many actors won\u2019t take my advice. One thing I learned is patience while working with people and staying up late to finish the script, but I enjoyed it,\u201d Madrigal said.<\/p>\n
Many of the radio actors were grateful for Madrigal\u2019s efforts.<\/p>\n
\u201cI appreciate the effort that Manny put into this play. He did a great job,\u201d said radio actor YaYa Ponce.<\/p>\n
Other participants commented on their learning experience in the production of a radio show.<\/p>\n
When asked how\u00a0it feels\u00a0to be a star radio actor Jonathan Talenteno, stage name Symphogear, said, \u201cI\u2019m not there yet. I am having fun; and over the last two semesters, I have learned to be a bit more outspoken as myself, Jonathan.\u201d<\/p>\n
Radio, like other communication devices, relies on engineering and technical skills.<\/p>\n
Brian Bertrand, the sound\u00a0board operator explained the duties and responsibilities of sound board operation.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnything that is technical that goes through the board and out to the audience is my responsibility. It requires a lot of patience coordinating all of the audio adjustments that take place around the board,\u201d Bertrand said.<\/p>\n
In typical theater \u201dbreak your leg\u201d fashion, Language Arts Dean Kimura expressed her best wishes.<\/p>\n
\u201cBest of luck to all the broadcasting students on this daring and inventive foray into high drama via the radio. I look forward to hearing this broadcast,\u201d Kimura said.<\/p>\n
