Over the course of just a week and a half, there have been at least 50 criminal reports from the San Jose Police Department within a square mile radius. These illegal doings include 20 robberies and thefts, 13 grand theft autos, five sexual offenses and 15 assaults. All these criminal actions were reported from the first week of September and within the boundaries of Hamilton Ave. to San Carlos St. and Lincoln Ave. to the 880 Freeway. It all started after the armed robbery that took place this late August.<\/p>\n
Six San Jose schools were on lockdown on Monday, Aug. 27 due to an armed robbery at the Wells Fargo bank located on 2061 Camden Avenue. The three masked robbers were booked at Santa Clara County Jail for suspicion of committing an armed robbery on Sept. 1.<\/p>\n
To welcome students on their first day of school, there was a call from dispatch reporting an assault. The report states an on-view arrest for domestic violence. Police records show an attempt of violence from the male towards the female in plain open. This commotion took place also in the 700 block of Bascom Avenue around 10:17 p.m.<\/p>\n
And just days later, on Sept. 10, there was a sexual assault on Bascom Avenue\u2019s 700 block. Around 3:16 p.m., there was a call for an attempted felony sex crime. No report was required; only dispatch recorded the incident. Not enough evidence was provided in order to make an arrest.<\/p>\n
Continuous crimes have been reported all week long and will continue to occur. Students feel afraid, concerned and are more alert.<\/p>\n
19-year-old Jose Torres has taken a precaution because of all the unlawful behavior that takes place nearby. \u201cI know this city can be dangerous at times, so that is why I would rather go to school during the day,\u201d Torres said.<\/p>\n
Amanda Watson, 22, English major, expressed her need for more security on campus. \u201cI feel better and at ease knowing that there is an escort system on campus provided by the college police,\u201d Amanda said.<\/p>\n
Not many students are aware of our on-campus student escort.
