{"id":3415,"date":"2012-05-25T18:13:07","date_gmt":"2012-05-26T01:13:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sjcctimes.com\/?p=3415"},"modified":"2012-12-16T17:25:25","modified_gmt":"2012-12-17T01:25:25","slug":"football-players-sign-scholarships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sjcctimes.com\/es\/3415\/sports\/football-players-sign-scholarships\/","title":{"rendered":"Football players sign scholarships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three San Jose City College football players have received scholarship offers to transfer to the college of their choice and play at the next level.<\/p>\n<p>Harry Adeji, wide receiver, earned his Associate Degree last semester and has transferred to Adams State in Colorado.<\/p>\n<p>Denzel McCullum, wide receiver from Miami, Fla., has also transferred to Adams State.<\/p>\n<p>Sophomore Tim Brown, linebacker, from Kapoeli High School in Hawaii, will attend Eastern Michigan University on a full-ride scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>Brown said he was talking to Nevada, but Eastern Michigan had a good school program with an overall good family feeling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne guy from Hawaii that is out there gave me the ropes,\u201d Brown said.<\/p>\n<p>Brown said that through the SJCC football season, his defensive coordinator leader, C. J. Arnold, never gave up on him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe helped me with my recruiting and put my film together,\u201d Brown said of Arnold. \u201cWhen I was frustrated with other issues outside\u00a0of football, he would help me out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said SJCC football head coach Carlton Connor and Arnold would push him and were supportive in his decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey open up doors; but if you don\u2019t help yourself, then you won\u2019t get anywhere,\u201d Brown said.<\/p>\n<p>He said his biggest influences are\u00a0his parents and son.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to give my son a nice upbringing, since it was a rough one for me,\u201d Brown said. \u201cIt was a big deal when I got a scholarship because we don\u2019t get big breaks like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brown will earn his associate degree in criminal justice this semester.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery football player wants to try and compete,\u201d Brown said. \u201cIf I don\u2019t get there, I at least have a degree to fall back on.\u201d<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Three San Jose City College football players have received scholarship offers to transfer to the college of their choice and play at the next level.
