Murillo (Right) after the screening.<br \/>(<a href=\"https:\/\/sjcctimes.com\/staff_profile\/mike-guzman\/\">Mike Guzman<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eduardo used the film to spotlight laborious farm workers who pick fresh produce and gave eye-opening insight into what life looks like spending weeks on the fields. He said that by producing the film, he hoped to demonstrate the importance of field workers and the often backbreaking work that they do.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt&#8217;s super important for us to understand where our food comes from, &#8221; Chavez told the Times. \u201cSo many people are not educated on what the food chain looks like.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Migrant workers, a group that is predominantly Latino\/x, play a pivotal role in the state\u2019s agricultural sector, comprising <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/latinocaucus.legislature.ca.gov\/sites\/latinocaucus.legislature.ca.gov\/files\/CRB%20Report%20on%20Farmworkers%20in%20CA%20S-13-017.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">over three-fourths<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the workforce in California, which yields<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdfa.ca.gov\/Statistics\/PDFs\/2022_Ag_Stats_Review.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> one-eighth<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the nation\u2019s yearly food output, a reality that Chavez is well aware of.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIn this country \u2026 99.9% of the time there is either a Latina woman or man using their hands to<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">begin the food chain. That&#8217;s the very beginning and that ends on our plate or the grocery store.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After the film ended, Eduardo took time to detail his journey navigating the pressure tied to a surname such as Chavez and the precedent set by his grandfather.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhen I was a kid I was always compared to my grandfather and [expected] to follow in his footsteps,\u201d Eduardo said. \u201cThere is so much power in your history and ancestry and the sacrifices your parents and grandparents made.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eduardo expressed that over time, he eventually realized that he did not have to mirror his grandfather and that he could forge his own path, with the film highlighting the generational divide separating young Latino\/x communities and Cesar\u2019s weighty legacy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eduardo wants to keep educating the youth through his documentary.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hailingcesar.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to his website,<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Eduardo has given hundreds of speaking tours to high schools, colleges and universities across the country, sharing his experience about his family history and the challenges farm workers are still faced with today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt was kind of when I found my path in filmmaking and storytelling where I really came into peace with the fact that I\u2019m not my grandfather.\u201d Eduardo said. \u201cI don&#8217;t need to be him.
