Gov. Jerry Brown has reappointed Danny Hawkins, systems administrator for San Jose Evergreen Community College District, to the California Community College Board of Governors.<\/p>\n
\u201cGov. Brown first appointed me to the classified seat on the Board of Governors in July of 2011, and he has re-appointed me for a two-year term which began in January of 2012,\u201d Hawkins said.<\/p>\n
The 17-member board sets policy and provides guidance to the California community college system and is also responsible for hiring the State Chancellor.<\/p>\n
In turn, the chancellor makes recommendations to the board, which has the authority to develop and implement policies for the colleges.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Board of Governors has direct oversight on California Title V regulations, the most notable being the Board of Governors Grant Program, BOG fee waiver for short,\u201d Hawkins said.<\/p>\n
Hawkins is a 1985 Evergreen Valley College graduate and has worked at the district offices for almost 15 years. Prior to employment with the District Office, he was an adjunct faculty member at EVC. As senior systems administrator, he primarily supports the Datatel\/Colleague Unix systems as well as the district\u2019s Windows servers.<\/p>\n
This position is unpaid, but each board member receives a stipend of $100 per meeting and also mileage is provided.<\/p>\n
