A single mother, Leah Smith, a media art major student, with her two children, left, Akailliah Smith and Devahn Smith are in attendance at "Appreciation Dinner," for Thanksgiving in Technology Center, Nov. 22.<\/figcaption><\/figure>Associated Students held the annual student appreciation dinner in Technology Center, Tuesday, Nov. 22. Students, faculty and staff were invited to attend. Approximately 225 guests were present.<\/p>\n

AS president Mike Casas did the welcoming address for those in attendance. \u201cThere are many reasons for this annual event to take place,\u201d Casas said. Students are low income, unemployed with no money. The dinner is held annually to show students that they are appreciated for the support they have given in regard to school activities, events and programs on SJCC campus.<\/p>\n

\u201cThanksgiving is a time to come together with family and friends and be grateful for things we have.\u201d Faline Ginghofer, an early childhood development major student said. \u201cIt was lovely to have the SJCC president and vice president greet everyone and let us know we are appreciated by them,\u201d Ginghofer said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThanksgiving means sharing, giving and being with family,\u201d Linda Gonzales, an art major student said.

\n\u201cThis is the second Thanksgiving without my mom but this year is easier to cope with,\u201d Gonzales said. \u201cThis dinner made for a real family atmosphere. Some of my friends do not have family, so it made things really nice.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThanksgiving means to be with family, friends and the togetherness of the holiday season,\u201d Jose Lujan, computer networking major said, \u201cThis is wonderful. SJCC always put on a good buffet.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
