In an effort to prevent the spread of the coronavirus on campus, San Jose City College has suspended most operations through Wednesday, April 8.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome essential services will continue to be provided in-person \u2026 and at the District Office,\u201d Chancellor Byron Breland wrote in a March 17 email. \u201cFor instance, police services will continue.\u201d<\/p>\n

The San Jose Evergreen Community College District was informed March 11 by the Public Health Department that a student tested positive for COVID-19 on Feb. 26. The administration suspended in-person classes March 11.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe student is currently not on campus and has not been on campus since Feb. 26, which is outside of the 14-day incubation period for COVID-19,\u201d Chancellor Byron Breland wrote in a March 12 email.<\/p>\n

Classes migrated to an online format March 16. The original timeline for the suspension was April 3; but with the introduction of the Santa Clara County shelter-in-place order, the timeline was extended five days.<\/p>\n

\u201cStudents are expected to continue their coursework online,\u201d Breland wrote, \u201c and faculty and staff to continue their professional work and duties as well.”<\/p>\n
