{"id":13277,"date":"2020-02-19T22:54:18","date_gmt":"2020-02-20T06:54:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sjcctimes.com\/13277\/campus-life\/late-start-courses-arrive-at-sjcc\/"},"modified":"2020-05-08T23:16:21","modified_gmt":"2020-05-09T06:16:21","slug":"late-start-courses-arrive-at-sjcc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sjcctimes.com\/es\/13277\/campus-life\/late-start-courses-arrive-at-sjcc\/","title":{"rendered":"Late start courses arrive at SJCC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Late start courses allow students to register for courses at SJCC after the add codes deadline.<br \/>\nExamples of late start courses include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CIS-017B-101-an online computer course<\/li>\n<li>ENGL-001A-136-an English course<\/li>\n<li>READ-120-103-a reading course<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Throughout the semester, more and more late start courses get added to the course catalog.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhatever class it is, that department has to put it in (the schedule) because we don\u2019t add it,\u201d said Lan Chung, Admissions and Records technician.<br \/>\nIn regard to the course catalog, students enroll in late start courses whenever they get a chance to look at them.<br \/>\n\u201cI haven\u2019t looked into that,\u201d said Carlos Molasco, 26, psychology major. \u201cIf I look into those courses, see what they are about, and I am interested in those courses, then I will enroll.\u201d<br \/>\nIn addition to the course catalog, some students don\u2019t want to take late start courses because of how they feel about those courses.<br \/>\n\u201cI just want to go to school and I love it. I feel happy,\u201d said Thuy Nguyen, 29, dental assisting major. \u201cI feel that if I take those courses, I will feel nervous.\u201d<br \/>\nAside from how students feel about late start courses, they also don\u2019t enroll in those courses because they already have enough units.<br \/>\n\u201cI am not interested because I have enough units already,\u201d said Thomas Goin, 54, behavioral science major. \u201cI don\u2019t want to take any late start courses.\u201d<br \/>\nFor some late start courses, students are required to attend the class more often in order to achieve a good grade, and these courses don\u2019t always have the same deadlines as regular courses do.<br \/>\nRegular courses allow students to register until the second Sunday of the semester; for late start courses, it varies depending on when the course starts.<br \/>\nThe deadline to drop without a &#8220;W&#8221; is the same as the deadline to use add codes, and the grades for those courses are available at the same time as regular courses.<br \/>\nThe deadline to use add codes was Feb. 9. Students can search for late start courses that they can still register for by:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Logging into <a href=\"http:\/\/myweb.sjeccd.edu\">MyWeb<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Clicking \u201cStudents\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Clicking \u201cSearch for Sections (Advanced)\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Choosing \u201cLate Start\u201d in the \u201cShort Term\/Late Start\/Early Start Section\u201d box<\/li>\n<li>Filling out the other necessary boxes<\/li>\n<\/ol>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Late start courses allow students to register for courses at SJCC after the add codes deadline.
