Text alone won\u2019t make relationships last<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although there is a lot of speculation about the correlation between technology and social bonds, SJCC intercultural communications professor Sarah Burkhamer offered a different outlook.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cTechnology requires skill and self-awareness,\u201d Burkhamer said. \u201cIf one approaches it in a mindless manner with no goals, it may very well inhibit their ability to connect and move toward their goals.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a primate species, there is an innate need for humans to have social relationships and observation of emotion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We yearn for connection,\u201d Burkhamer said.
