{"id":11696,"date":"2017-11-07T19:18:08","date_gmt":"2017-11-08T03:18:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sjcctimes.com\/?p=11696"},"modified":"2017-12-07T14:04:03","modified_gmt":"2017-12-07T22:04:03","slug":"one-candidates-strategy-ignites-movement-amend-rules","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sjcctimes.com\/es\/11696\/campus-life\/one-candidates-strategy-ignites-movement-amend-rules\/","title":{"rendered":"One candidate\u2019s strategy ignites movement to amend the rules\u00a0[video]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Student government officers plan to change the Associated Student Government election code after it was discovered that the<a href=\"https:\/\/sjcctimes.com\/11675\/news\/founder-robotics-automation-club-new-student-trustee\/\"> newly elected San Jose City College Student Trustee <\/a>Joseph Heady offered students an alternative option to show him their support on Election Day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI said (to students) there are two ways you can vote; online or you can put your information down here and we&#8217;ll submit it on your behalf,\u201d Heady said.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed amendment to the election code states: \u201cEach student must cast their ballot with their own individual identification number.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The rule was submitted by ASG Chief Justice Sabryna Rodriquez who was appointed to the board late September during an ASG meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Heady\u2019s opponent Jorge Casas spoke in favor of the election code amendment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn terms of ethics and morals,\u201d\u00a0Casas said, \u201cit raises a lot of questions because you could have said anything to these students, someone could have been misled. Even\u00a0if one student was misled I think it raises questions of ethics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While discussing the proposed amendment Wednesday, Oct. 25, a representative from the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science said, depending on which side you are on, the addition to the election code is good and bad.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is rather unfortunate that it (proposing the amendment) happened under these circumstances, but it helps us really look at some issues we have right now,\u201d SACNAS representative said. \u201cI noticed that most students didn\u2019t actually know about the election, including who the candidates were.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A Communication Club representative said that he believed it was a good election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe guy (Student trustee Heady) did whatever he could, it\u2019s a doggy dog (sic) world, I would have done the same thing,\u201d Communication Club representative said, \u201cand when you say he swindled these people you are talking about the competence of the students as if they are not smart enough to understand they gave him their ID.
