Imagine an eight year old telling you what to
\ndo \u2026 then imagine you are a demigod, throw
\nin humor and song, and voila – you have classic
\nDisney feature guaranteed to please families and
\nfriends alike.
\nMoana, an animated-adventure film, produced
\nby Walt Disney Pictures, released the
\nday before Thanksgiving, is the five-year culmination
\nof research into Polynesian culture.
\nThe animation is certainly the best we\u2019ve
\never seen Disney present with individual
\nhair movement, rich Polynesian color pallets
\nand both fire and water 3D FXs. The
\nonly Disney Animated Studio movie to
\ncome close is Dinosaur and Pixar-creations.
\nAccording to Forbes Moana | Tops Black
\nFriday and smashes right between Frozen
\nand Tangled hall of fame with 82 million.
\nThe A-list Polynesian cast adds deep vocal
\ntextures, rhythms and mythos enhancements
\nfew others could master: Auli\u2019i Cravalho
\n– Moana, Dwayne Johnson – Maui, Rachel
\nHouse – Gramma Tala, Temuera Morrison
\n– Chief Tui, Nicole Scherzinger \u2013 mother Sina,
\nas well as, Jemaine Clement \u2013 crab Tamatoa
\nand Alan Tudyk \u2013 rooster Heihei. For most of
\nthe cast, it was the first time meeting and many
\ntears were shed outside sound booth doors.
\nThe story begins when the Ocean itself choses
\na tiny baby from an island village to interact
\nwith. As Moana grows, she constantly
\nreturns to the water\u2019s edge to play and try and
\nsneak in. While her father and mother discourage
\nher, her Gramma Tala shares ocean
\nstories and teases her about her curiosity.
\nAt the tender age of eight, as Moana steps
\ninto her place as the next chief, plants begin
\nto die and the fish disappear. Suddenly
\nMoana is faced with life or death decisions.
\nOn a lonely night, her grandmother seeks her
\nout and shares the greatest story of all. Their
\npeople were never from the Island \u2013 they were
\nvoyagers from far away. Gifted with the special
\ntasks of finding the demigod Maui and returning
\nthe heart of Te Fiti, Moana flounders between
\nwhat she should do and what she must do.
\nThen tragedy strikes, her grandmother dies,
\nyet her glowing animal spirit \u2013 a great manta
\nray \u2013 streaks out across the ocean and reveals
\nhow to pass through the island reef\u2026
\nWith sold out theaters across the Silicon Valley,
\nthis movie is well worth your time and a perfect
