America hides its problems instead of fixing them<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gender inequality has always existed,
\nit is hard to fix and taught to
\nfuture generations. I want to live in a
\nworld where women are not treated
\nas less than because of her gender.
\nAlthough we may have laws that
\npromote equal opportunities, laws
\ndo not contribute to people\u2019s belief
\nthat everyone is equal. America
\ndoes not believe that everyone is
\nequal.
\nOur president of 2016, who has
\na lot of influence over future generations,
\nmakes plenty of sexist
\nremarks; for instance he compared
\nwomen to buildings and added that
\nhe gets bored when they become
\nsuccessful.
\n\u201cI think that putting a wife to
\nwork is a very dangerous thing,\u201d
\nsaid Trump. \u201cUnfortunately, after
\nthey\u2019re a star, the fun is over…like
\na creation process. It\u2019s almost like
\ncreating a building. It\u2019s pretty sad.\u201d
\nThis so-called role model is sending
\na message, that these discriminatory
\nbeliefs are okay and should be
\nembraced, to society\u2019s children.
\nMen continue to view women as
\ninsignificant. Yet, if women admit
\nto how they feel about this it makes
\nthem look weak because we are
\nproving to the men that what they
\ndo or say affects us and women are
\nafraid to seem that vulnerable.
\nMichelle Obama said. \u201cWe are
\ndoing what women have always
\ndone, trying to get through it, trying
\nto pretend that this doesn\u2019t really
\nbother us. Maybe because we think
\nadmitting how much it hurts, makes
\nus as women look weak, women are
\ngrown accustomed to swallowing
\nthese emotions and keeping quiet.\u201d
\nShe said women react this way
\nbecause they have seen that people
\noften won\u2019t take a woman\u2019s word
\nover a man.
\nHow does raw power get to have
\nan \u201cun-critiqued\u201d place in an unjust
\nand unequal society? How does
\npower work that when you point to
\nits excess it makes you look weaker?
\nMaybe it\u2019s because when women
\nspeak up against power, their
\nadmitting to those with higher privilege
\nthat women go through these
\nproblems in the first place.
\nSociety changes people\u2019s mindset
\ninto believing that if women were
\nstrong and confident enough they
\nwouldn\u2019t be having these issues.
\nAlmost like when that different kid
\nin school gets picked on by bullies,
\nand those bullies make themselves
\nbelieve that if that kid wasn\u2019t so
\n\u201cweird\u201d they wouldn\u2019t be bothering
\nhim in the first place. The aggressor
\nwill make themselves not have
\na guilty conscience and continue to
\noppress others. Think of these gender
\nstereotypes that men continue to
\nproclaim, as a way of clearing their
\nguilty conscience so they can oppress
\nwomen freely.
\nI am going to participate in organizations
\nand social actions that support
\ngender equality and women\u2019s
\nempowerment. It\u2019s more crucial
\nnow to begin to make these values
\na priority. It\u2019s appalling to see
\nthat Americans actually agree and
\nsupport the mindset of our newly
\nelected president who ridicules and
\ndisrespects women. I find it very
\nimportant to get more involved if I
\nwant to accomplish my ideal society;
\nput an end to gender stereotyping
\nin all aspects of society, family,
\nschool, workplace and the law.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
