Regarding Benjamin Castro\u2019s
\nopinion article \u201cSomebody,
\nplease, wake me up\u201d:
\nWhile I agree that it is terrifying
\nto know that president-elect,
\nDonald Trump is \u201cimmature, unfiltered,
\ndisrespectful and with
\nno government experience,\u201d this
\narticle could have been developed
\nfurther by addressing more
\nof the issues that students on
\nour campus may face with this
\nevent\u2019s occurrence.
\nOne of these issues being that
\nTrump threatens to mass deport
\nDACA students and their families.
\nA concern that arises from this
\nis how many of these students
\nhave already placed money in
\nAmerican schools and with these
\ndeportations they must return to
\na country they barely know along
\nwith a mass amount of debt from
\ntrying to receive an education.
\nIt will also cost the United
\nStates up to $23,480 to deport
\none person, according to Jana
\nKasperkevic of Business Insider.
\nThis decision encourages the
\nviolation of the rights of DACA
\nstudents obtained, to work and
\nstudy in the United States lawfully.
\nTrump has already spoken on
\nhow he wants to ban all Muslims
\nand if he is already planning on
\ndeporting DACA students, this
\ncan lead to him disregarding the
\nhuman rights of many more minorities
\nin the country.
\nAn article on the views of
\nDACA students at our school
\npostelection would be an interesting
\nread; they have not had
\nthe opportunity to voice their
\nopinions on the subject yet.

\nI am writing this letter as a plea
\nto save the Deferred Action for
\nChildhood Arrivals immigration
\nact from being obliterated by
\nDonald Trump.
\nThere are many reimbursements
\nthat DACA has for immigrants
\nas well as for the federal
\ngovernment and United States
\ncitizens. Statistics have proven
\nthat DACA has increased wages,
\nbrought in more money in taxes,
\nprovided a safer driving environment
\nand decreased public aid
\nspending.
\nAlthough DACA has been in
\neffect just three years it has had
\nan impact on wages in the U.S.
\nPeople receiving little over $11
\n(an hour) saw a 45 percent wage
\nincrease, $17 an hour on average.
\nSince DACA, immigrants have a
\nchance to get a better education
\nand go into a career that suits
\nthem, which benefits both immigrants
\nand U.S. citizens. According
\nto a survey of DACA Recipients
\ntaken June 2015, 62 percent
\nof immigrants employed under
\nDACA have been able to make
\nmore money and are paying taxes
\ncreating more tax revenue and
\nimproving the U.S. economy.
\nAlso DACA immigrants can
\nobtain a license which makes our
\nstreets safer and they are able to
\nget insurance.
\nDACA has done great things
\nfor this country in the past three
\nyears\u00a0such as raising wages, providing
\na safe driving environment,
\nraising tax revenue and lowering
\nstate aid costs. It would be an
\nembarrassment for our country
\nto deny 665,000 people this program
\nwhen it provides great advantages
\nfor our country as well
\nas DACA immigrants. Please
