Inaugural Safe Zone event<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hosted by English Professor Michelle Blair, with
\nthe Office of Students Affairs The Transgender
\nAwareness Panel and Discussion was a success,
\nwith over 70 people in attendance. Three panelists,
\nKelly J. Kelly, Robyn Adams, and Aron
\nValdez (an SJCC graduate), spoke honestly
\nand compellingly about their experience being
\nnon-gender-conforming. Q & A followed the
\nspeakers.
\nFinally, Transgender Day of Remembrance
\n(which takes place annually, on Nov. 20) was
\nhonored as names were read aloud from a partial
\nlist of those who had been killed in 2016 by anti-
\ntransgender violence.
\nHuge thanks go to Lezra Chenportillo of the
\nTransfer Center; Maria Avalos of the Student
\nAffairs Office; Judy Wessler of the President\u2019s
\nOffice; and President Byron Breland and V.P. of
\nStudent Affairs Roland Montemayor, who make
\nsure that equity and inclusivity abound on our
