{"id":11117,"date":"2016-10-11T11:49:53","date_gmt":"2016-10-11T18:49:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sjcctimes.com\/?p=11117"},"modified":"2016-10-11T12:24:13","modified_gmt":"2016-10-11T19:24:13","slug":"pre-law-program-prepares-students-for-the-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sjcctimes.com\/es\/11117\/news\/pre-law-program-prepares-students-for-the-future\/","title":{"rendered":"Pre-Law program prepares students for the future"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Pathway to Law School program allows aspiring law students to begin their journey at San Jose City College.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe program is for students who are interested in either going to law school or other law-related careers,\u201d Pathway to Law School program coordinator, Rachel Hagan said, \u201cany legal field, including (but not limited to) paralegal, legal secretary, police officer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jorge Casas, a student in the program, is very excited at the opportunity of one day getting into law school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI realize it\u2019s no guarantee, a large part of it will be up to me to make it academically,\u201d Casas said, \u201cmy experiences and endeavors will be greatly enhanced as a member of Pathway to Law school.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The program was created to give diverse populations more opportunities to participate in the legal profession, according to a press release by the California Community Colleges chancellor.<\/p>\n<p>For students, the program requirements are simple.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStudents can take advantage of this program without having to take many other courses,\u201d Hagan said, \u201cbecause many of the courses required are basic general education courses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As part of the Pathway to Law program, students receive early exposure to the law school experience, individual counseling, LSAT preparation and waived application fees for admission to participating law schools, according to the SJCC website.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will be taking a trip to UC Santa Cruz,\u201d Hagan said. \u201cThey offer legal studies and mock trial courses, we\u2019ll be going on courthouse visits and (in the near future) speakers from Destination Law School will be at San Jose City College.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>SJCC is one of only 24 California community colleges participating in this program. Participating law schools include: University of San Francisco, University of Santa Clara, University of California Davis, University of Southern California, Loyola University, University of California Los Angeles and Irvine.<\/p>\n<p>Those considering law school must begin preparing now.
