{"id":10570,"date":"2015-12-08T20:52:21","date_gmt":"2015-12-09T04:52:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sjcctimes.com\/?p=10570"},"modified":"2015-12-09T21:01:01","modified_gmt":"2015-12-10T05:01:01","slug":"jaguars-overcome-offensive-struggles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sjcctimes.com\/es\/10570\/sports\/jaguars-overcome-offensive-struggles\/","title":{"rendered":"Jaguars overcome offensive struggles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Sankey leads SJCC past MPC<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Regina Sankey\u2018s 24 points helped the San Jose City College women\u2019s basketball team win its second game of the year defeating Monterey Peninsula College 55-52.<\/p>\n<p>The Jaguars were down 48-40 midway the fourth quarter after Lobos\u2019 forward Cassandra Barraza stole the ball and scored two points in a quick break away as she was fouled by Jaguars\u2019 forward Jhaina Stephens. Barraza completed the three-point play after scoring the free throw.<\/p>\n<p>When it seemed the momentum was shifting towards MPC, Sankey stole it right back.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sjcctimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2015\/12\/BasketBallBW1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"415\" class=\"size-large wp-image-10522\" src=\"http:\/\/sjcctimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2015\/12\/BasketBallBW1-600x415.jpg\" alt=\"Ashley Snow, Guard, attemps a free throw during the second quarter of the game against Monterey Peninsula College at SJCC on Tuesday, Nov. 24. Snow contributed with 8 points, all in the first half.\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sjcctimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/BasketBallBW1-600x415.jpg 600w, https:\/\/sjcctimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/BasketBallBW1-400x277.jpg 400w, https:\/\/sjcctimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/BasketBallBW1-940x651.jpg 940w, https:\/\/sjcctimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/BasketBallBW1-720x498.jpg 720w, https:\/\/sjcctimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/BasketBallBW1-520x360.jpg 520w, https:\/\/sjcctimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/BasketBallBW1-320x221.jpg 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sankey kept the Jaguars in the game with a steal that led to a layup on the break-away to get within four points.<\/p>\n<p>The jaguars continued to push the score board when point guard Teresa Guerra hit two 3-pointers and Sankey scored two free throws to take the lead 53-48 with three minutes left to complete a 13-0 run.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s really what did it,\u201d Sankey said. \u201cShe (Guerra) got us boosted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Guerra tried to put the game away for SJCC with 32 seconds left on the game. She took an open three-shot, but unfortunately for her and the jaguars it did not go in.<\/p>\n<p>The scene was set for a dramatic finish.<\/p>\n<p>The Lobos had the opportunity to tie the game with the last possession of the game with 17 seconds left on the clock. MPC took three open shots from beyond the three-point line and rebounded all to take one final shot with less than two seconds left, but the ball hit the rim and bounced to a SJCC player to end the game.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe played as a team that\u2019s the only reason why we did good and we all scored a lot of points and we came back at the end to win it,\u201d Sankey said.<\/p>\n<p>It was a tail of two halves for SJCC.<\/p>\n<p>In the first half SJCC scored 26 points with the contribution of seven players with at least two points.
