Mid campus now has access to coffee and assorted snacks<\/strong><\/p>\n

Students walking by the business\u00a0building may have noticed signs with\u00a0balloons advertising a KJ\u2019s Caf\u00e9 \u00e0 la\u00a0Carte.<\/p>\n

KJ\u2019s Caf\u00e9 \u00e0 la Carte opened a\u00a0location on campus for the first time\u00a0on Wednesday, Oct. 14.<\/p>\n

Katherine Bailey, KJ\u2019s Caf\u00e9 \u00e0 la\u00a0Carte president and owner, was on\u00a0site for what she called a soft opening\u00a0with a grand opening to come at a\u00a0later date.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll be serving gourmet coffees\u00a0and teas, iced beverages, grab-and-go\u00a0sandwiches, salads, wraps, parfaits,\u00a0fruit and other assorted snacks,\u201d\u00a0Bailey said.<\/p>\n

Students with classes nearby\u00a0investigated the new caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Before the\u00a0caf\u00e9 opened students with classes in\u00a0the Business and Multi-Disciplinary\u00a0buildings had to walk to either the\u00a0Technology Center or the Student\u00a0Center to get food or coffee, a task\u00a0difficult on a 10-minute passing\u00a0period. Now they can go to the\u00a0nearby theater lobby.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love it because it\u2019s just so\u00a0convenient,\u201d SJCC student Hayley\u00a0Leonard said. \u201cI have a drama class\u00a0in the theater, then I have psychology\u00a0in the B building 10 minutes after.\u00a0I don\u2019t have time to walk to the\u00a0Student Center or Tech Center.\u201d<\/p>\n

The atmosphere of the caf\u00e9 is\u00a0quite different from the cafeteria\u00a0with wooden floors, mood lighting,\u00a0decorations and art on the walls.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt seems kind of homey,\u201d SJCC\u00a0student Robert Longshore said. \u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0not like the cafeteria. It\u2019s quiet. It has\u00a0a nice space to it.\u201d<\/p>\n

KJ\u2019s is a small business that has\u00a0been operating since 1992 and serves\u00a0Equator Coffee, which is an organic\u00a0and Fairtrade product from a \u00a0female owned\u00a0company in Marin County.<\/p>\n

KJ\u2019s Caf\u00e9 donates money\u00a0to various charities and causes throughout the year, Bailey said and\u00a0noted the barista working that day,\u00a0Jesus Del Toro, wore a pink shirt in\u00a0honor of Breast Cancer Awareness\u00a0month.<\/p>\n

With the addition of KJ\u2019s Caf\u00e9,\u00a0students now have three different\u00a0locations on campus they can go to\u00a0for edible goodies instead of two.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s a nice new choice and\u00a0different options instead of cafeteria\u00a0food,\u201d Leonard said.\u00a0When stopping in for the first time\u00a0while on break from Art History\u00a0class, SJCC student Erica Christopher\u00a0said, \u201cIt\u2019s like Christmas!\u201d<\/p>\n
