The Board of Trustees<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Board of Trustees will select San
\nJose City College\u2019s new chancellor,
\nshortly after Nov. 3.<\/p>\n

After a lengthy search among a broad
\npool of qualified candidates for the next
\nchancellor, the 17 member search committee
\nwill have narrowed the final selection
\ndown to five potential candidates,
\nwhich will be introduced to the campus
\ncommunity the first week of November.
\nThe Board of Trustees will schedule their
\nfinal interviews for mid-November, after
\nwhich time the new chancellor will be
\nnamed.<\/p>\n

The City College Times will publish\u00a0an in-depth article about this new chancellor\u00a0in our next issue. In other Board of\u00a0Trustee business at its Oct. 27 meeting,\u00a0Vice Chancellor of Information Technology\u00a0Ben Seaberry presented the annual\u00a0Information Technology Plan for the\u00a0district, laying out future projects for the\u00a02015-2016 year including a wireless upgrade\u00a0to the Internet network at SJCC.<\/p>\n

In closing, the board passed two\u00a0resolutions for the month of October: 1)\u00a0Support of Filipino American History\u00a0Month and 2) Support for Disabilities\u00a0Awareness Month.<\/p>\n

The next board meeting will be held\u00a0at 6 p.m., Nov. 10, at 40 S. Market Street,\u00a0San Jose.<\/p>\n

The Academic Senate<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Academic Senate met Oct.\u00a020. At which time San Jose City College\u00a0President Bryon D. Clift Breland confirmed\u00a0hiring eight (possibly nine) fulltime\u00a0faculty as recommended by the AS\u00a0at the previous meeting. These positions\u00a0should be opened by Dec. 1 and posted\u00a0by Dec. 10.<\/p>\n

The Instructional Policies and Curriculum\u00a0Committee put forth two new
\ncourse proposals; Theater 050: Introduction\u00a0to Theatre Design and Journalism
\n150: Introduction to Public Relations.<\/p>\n

Joseph King, library coordinator,\u00a0presented the Safe Zone program, \u201cThe\u00a0Safe Zone program at San Jose City College\u00a0was started in 2013 with the intent\u00a0to provide support and campus awareness\u00a0of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and\u00a0transgender (LGBT) student population.\u00a0The objective is for faculty, staff and\u00a0administrators to understand the issues\u00a0that LGBT students face and to provide a\u00a0safe place for them on campus and in the\u00a0classroom.\u201d<\/p>\n

The City College Times published\u00a0an article about The Safe Zone and the\u00a0LGBT community in its Oct. 13 issue.<\/p>\n

A member of the San Jose Evergreen\u00a0Community College District presented\u00a0a packet on active shooter preparedness\u00a0which included pictures of how to secure\u00a0classroom doors from the inside and\u00a0\u201cRun. Hide. Fight.\u201d instructions.<\/p>\n

Associated Student Government<\/strong><\/p>\n

Associated Student Government\u00a0met Oct. 21<\/p>\n

A major portion of the meeting\u00a0time consisted of a discussion\u00a0regarding changing the current\u00a0legislative format from a joint\u00a0meeting of ASG executive council\u00a0and club representatives to a\u00a0Senate type structure consisting\u00a0of the executive committee taking\u00a0legislative action on agenda items\u00a0and the clubs meeting at a separate\u00a0Inter Club Council.<\/p>\n
