Many at SJCC know the burden of supporting a family and going to school<\/strong>\u00a0<\/center>SJCC pays homage to its student\u2019s personal and financial need thorough guidance and educational support.<\/p>\n”Higher education is a right that should be given but it is something that we as individuals must go out and work toward,\u201d said Tammy Connor,\u201cThe college tuition fees and the high cost of books, units, transportation, parking permits are a few of the things that can slow a person down in their pursuit to educational success.\u201d<\/p>\n
Conner had attended San Jose City College for a year before being forced to suspend her studies to work two jobs to earn extra income to support her two children that are six and eight years old. She is just one of many people who are forced to do the same every year.<\/p>\n
In a junior college setting costs are cut down from the larger state and universities, but most American teens and young adults going to college still are unable to obtain the income not necessary to support them at the community college level, which is supposed to be the cheapest route for higher education.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou have to be innovative\u201d, said Chad Walker age 27 who grew up near the SJCC campus, \u201cWhen I was in school I took advantage of every possible angle of getting money for college.\u201d<\/p>\n
If you look into the options you have you will find schools have programs and clubs to help with costs and other hardships that affect students\u2019 opportunities for schooling.<\/p>\n
Cody MowBray, 21, Director of Legislative Affairs for the San Jose City College Associated Student Government, said that the best opportunity for students to gain knowledge about school programs and student governing events is to go to the information desk in the Student Center.<\/p>\n
MowBray said, \u201cThe staff there at the desk is pretty knowledgeable about the programs and student affairs,\u201d<\/p>\n
Each community college has an administration building and a student center that can assists a student with the planning of their educational success through the guidance of counselors, financial aid, work study program, EOP&S program and other in school support options that are set in place for students\u2019 convenience.<\/p>\n
