This year’s International Education Week activities will expose participants to several cultures and traditions, as well as allow local and international students to interact Nov. 13-16.

Organized by the International Student Program, the events center around this year’s theme of “Promoting Mutual Understanding” and will include cultural dances, a potluck and other mixers to allow local and international students to interact.

“We try to gather a wide range of countries, and are always looking for better representation from the different cultures,” said Yanari. “Students will get the opportunity to learn different languages right from the start of the week (on) Monday, and it will culminate Thursday with a presentation of Japanese and Russian-influenced cultural dances.”

IEW also serves as an opportunity for students who are interested in studying abroad to gain knowledge and gather information. The programs during IEW will include a section dedicated to studying abroad.

“Although there is not yet a study abroad program at SJCC, there are some individuals that have some good information for those looking to learn in another country,” said Yanari.“Students that are interested in certain countries can meet with those from that country and ask questions about what to expect if traveling.”

Posters featuring various international countries will also be on display in the Student Services Center throughout the week as part of a poster competition.

International Student Program counselor Doriann Tran said, “International Education Week unites people, promotes diversity and international pride.”
