The SJCC 2010 team captains (from left to right) Kenney Pope, Lemar Derego, Napole Johnson and Aaron Huck walk to mid-field for the pre-game coin toss.
The SJCC Football team (1-6) earned its first win against the Gavilan College Rams (0-7) with a very impressive performance from the offense on Oct. 16.

With Omari Carr leading the Jags in rushing with 160 yards and two touch-downs and Haveloc Pomele with 81 yards and one touchdown, the team was able to come together and beat the Rams 34-13.

“It feels good, we worked hard during the previous week with intense practices and came together as a family,” said Haveloc Pomele, with quarterback Steve Source adding “the blockers did phenomenal and the receivers caught just about everything thrown at them.”

Alongside the offense, the defense held Gavilan allowing only two touchdowns with Jesse Carbajal leading in tackles with five solos and one assist.

“I think the players were intimidated by the caliber of teams we were playing and already had it made up that we were going to lose, and now the players are more confident and know we need to win conference so we can go to a bowl game,” said linebacker Donald Beck, who is leading the defense in tackles.

Up next the team will try to continue its winning ways Oct. 30, when Cabrillo College visits at 5 p.m.
