The San Jose City College football team huddles during a scrimmage.
San Jose City College kicked off the start of their football season on Sept. 11th as the Jaguars traveled to Yuba College in Marysville.

Despite a good effort on the part of the Jags they eventually suffered a 13- 10 defeat at the hands of the Yuba College 49ers. With 6:08 left in the game the Jags were forced to settle for a field goal making up the final score 13- 10 in the final minutes of the game. The Jags were unable to stop Yuba’s offense in order to regain possesion of the ball.

Highlights of the game included the performances of Jerome DeCosta (Edison High, Fresno, Ca.) rushing for 94 yards on 19 carries and Freshmen Ben Pomele (Milpitas High, Ca.) who scored the Jags only touchdown of the game on a 7 yard run from the line of scrimmage. On defense we had standout performances from Napoleon Johnson (Oak Grove High, San Jose, Ca.) who intercepted a pass to end a Yuba scoring threat at the half. Defensive End Lamar DeRego had a field day going for 2 sacks and a forced fumble.

The Jags play Community College of San Francisco on Sept. 25th at 7pm, the second of a 3 game home stand. So if you got the time try getting around to the football field to support your local Jags. We hope to see you there.
